Shawn Monper, 32, of Butler, was arrested after the FBI and Butler Township Police investigated a series of alarming online posts made under the username "Mr Satan," according to federal authorities.

The threats, made between January 15 and April 5, included specific violent plans. In one February comment, Monper allegedly wrote: “Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way.” Later that month, he allegedly declared: “I'm going to assassinate him myself,” during a YouTube livestream of Trump’s address to Congress, officials detailed in a federal criminal complaint.

Monper is also accused of targeting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, reportedly posting, “ICE are terrorist people, we need to start killing them," and, “If I see an armed ICE agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist and open fire on them.”

Investigators linked the online threats to Monper’s home, according to the FBI. Authorities also noted that Monper allegedly stockpiled firearms, ammunition, and body armor after Trump’s inauguration.

Monper’s arrest comes less than a year after another Butler County resident, Thomas Matthew Crooks, attempted to assassinate Trump during a rally in July 2024. You can read Daily Voice’s full coverage of that incident by clicking here.

Monper was arrested on Tuesday, April 9, and ordered detained pending preliminary and detention hearings scheduled for Monday, April 14 at 1 p.m., the DOJ said.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi praised investigators, saying, “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting the case.
